Stanley Park - Coal Harbour 9 O'Clock Gun

The gun was cast in Woolwich, England, in 1816. It was brought to Stanley Park in about 1894 and used as a 21:00 (9 pm) time signal for the public and to allow chronometers of ships in port to be set. The 9 O’Clock Gun is fired electronically each evening at 9:00 pm along the Stanley Park seawall. While it is now a popular attraction in the park, it used to serve as an important tool used to alert fishing boats that the harbour was closing for the evening and to aid other marines in navigation. If you hear this cannon fire don't panic.
